So, I've organized a tweetup for Somes Island on the 22nd of January. If you're reading this, it's probably because you'd like to come along and you're looking for information. Here's my thinking:
To get to the island, you'll need to take the East by West Ferry. I'm planning to be on the boat that leaves Queen's Wharf at 10:30 AM which will get to Somes Island at 11:20. If you're coming from the Hutt side of the harbour, you've got a couple of choices: come in to the city and catch it with me; catch the ferry at Days Bay at 11:10 (I'll see you on the boat); or catch the ferry at Petone at 11:30, arriving at the island at 11:40.
Coming home, there are a few choices again. It's all there in the time table.
Fares are here. A single adult to Somes Island is $22 return, student $18.50, child $11.50, family (2 adults, 4 kids) $64 . Tickets can be purchased at the office on Queen's wharf or on the boat if you're sailing from Eastbourne or Petone.
Lunch. I suppose I've called it a picnic. BYO. Bring whatever tickles your fancy. There are nice walking trails on the island and a few good areas to sit as a group and relax to eat.
